Context
The team is interested in rewarding kids for watching VOD but in a way that inspires a sense of mastery rather than binge watching. The summer research with moms session indicated that moms would not mind if kids were rewarded for watching videos in this way.
Problems
Users cannot currently earn rewards from watching VOD
Jobs
Jobs help you understand the situations, motivations, and expected outcomes for users who'd encounter your solutions to the problem.
- Kid
- When I am finished watching a VOD, I want to know if I get rewarded, so that I can earn enough coins to redeem a new emoji faster.
- When I see a VOD quiz pop up, I want to know what I need to do to move on, so that I can complete the quiz.
- When I finish
- Parent
- When I am finished watching a VOD with my child, I want to easily be able to answer the question with my child, so that we can have fun doing the activity together. e
Design Goals
- Help the user discover that they can answer a quiz to earn rewards for watching VOD
- Indicate to user that they’ve successfully earned rewards for VOD
Context Scenarios
| Number | Title | Scenario |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Watching 22 Minute VOD |
|

| |
| 3 | Watching DCOM |
|
Design Requirements
- Answer a quiz question immediately after finishing an episode but before the credits (since the user is short on time
- [On Hold] Know their own coin amount after earning coins from a quiz
- Some way to tell users of new quizzes (Home screen, etc.)
- Quiz can be programmed to display at anytime in a VOD. (Are there markers? Quiz pods?)
- Reward tokens by each question or at the end
- Voice over for questions
- Sound for quizzes
- Voiceover
- Getting right/wrong
- Earning tokens
- Coach mark when VOD quiz feature launches
- If a user skips a Quiz or gets it wrong, there a place they can view all available quizzes for them to take?
- Quiz entry from end cards
- If skip during-video questions, same questions are available at the end.
- 1 question for 22 min VOD
- 3-4 questions for DCOM
- If a user goes back to the video they just watched from the end card, after the video is over, the end card displays again so that users have entry to the quiz.
Current System
- Notification Bar is current way of informing users they can earn coins for playing games
- Analytics may have way of tracking how far a user is in VOD (quartile events)
- Daily Quizzes currently use a platform called Voice is Heard

Questions
- What happens if a user answers the VOD question wrong?
- Leaning towards direction of allowing kids to retake as many times as possible until they get it right
- How are we currently tracking VOD progress?
- See Parth email to Rona
- What is the breakdown of how long a user watches each VOD?
- When do users consider they’re done watching a full episode?
- Are we only rewarding users with tokens when they finish a quiz?
- Do all kids receive the same VOD question? Or is there a bucket of questions we will pull from to present?
- How long should a quiz be?
- Leaning towards 1 mid-card question for a 22 min. VOD
- For a DCOM, may have 3 questions. If user skips them all, they can be taken at the end of the video.
- Should we reward differently for shorts vs VOD? Should shorts be rewarded at all? Should we consider a counter like watch 3 shorts = x coins?
- Not considering shorts for quizzes at the moment
- Who’s going to be writing the content for the quizzes?
- How do VOD Quizzes differ across platforms? Mobile vs Web vs TV.
- Does VOD Tile tray correlate to a collection in All Shows?
- Probably Home only for first launch
- If you revisit a VOD with a quiz you have finished already, can you retake the quiz and then not get token rewards?
- To keep it simple, let's assume no retake of the quiz. Would need a state to reflect quiz has already been taken before.
- Can we make changes to the end cards to accommodate quizzes?
- We are able to tweak end cards.
- What happens when a user scrubs back to a quiz pod?
- IF user has already answered question – sheet notification does not reappear
- IF user has not answered quiz – relaunches sheet notification
- What happens when a user finishes a quiz and relaunches VOD?
Do we want to use QUIZney branding at all in relation to VOD Quizzes?
- From Ken D 11/07/2018. : No, treat VOD quizzes as seperate
Future Ideas
Polling system/Quizzes on homepage
RDMA Voting
- Leaderboards
Not Doing
- VOD Quiz markers on video tiles. Potentially for the future if we want to promote certain content.
