  • Product Requirements Doc by Leland
  • 10/4/2018 - Rona Sheen & John Solaro chat
    • John is okay with Kim's direction of leaving Profiles on the device after a user signs out of OneID as long as the user gets the choice to delete all the Profiles or leave them local.
      • #1 thing is that the user has to feel that they're in control.
  • 10/4/2018 - Rona Sheen & Leland weeks
    • Leland to finish drafting requirements and we'll review soon to talk flow.
    • After we feel good about the feature, we'll share with broader stakeholders.

Context

Ability for a user to sync their profile across any DisneyNOW device.

  • Cross platform sync allows users with a profile on one device to setup that profile on another device. Profiles can be synced to any device with DisneyNOW installed regardless of if that device is a different form factor (phone vs. tablet vs. TV) or platform (iOS vs. Roku, etc.).
  • DisneyNOW profiles store profile name, profile emoji, favorite shows, channel mode and viewing history.
  • Presently profiles do not persist when a user uninstalls and installs the app or when a user upgrades their device.
  • Certain features like Continue Watching and the coming Rewards program provide more value if users can access these features on multiples devices.

Goals

  1. Provide a consistent user experience across devices.
  2. Allow users to have the same profile on multiple devices at the same time.
  3. Allow users to earn and access rewards on multiple devices.

Problems

  • Presently profiles do not persist when a user uninstalls and installs the app or when a user upgrades their device.
  • Certain features like Continue Watching and the coming Rewards program provide more value if users can access these features on multiples devices.

Jobs

Jobs help you understand the situations, motivations, and expected outcomes for users who'd encounter your solutions to the problem.

  • Kid
    • When I have earned rewards on one of my devices, I want to be able to pick up my family's other device to also continue earning rewards with the same profiles.
    • When I finishing watching VOD on my TV device, I want to be able to pick up where I left off on-the-go on my mobile phone.
  • Parent
    • When I help my child sign into another device, their progress on videos and Rewards points stay consistent across both.

Design Goals

  1. Help the user discover and be able to sign into One ID or create an account
  2. Help the user understand that when they sign out of their OneID account, their Profiles (TBD - remain on the device or app reverts to default/guest state)
  3. Indicate to user that they’ve successfully earned rewards for VOD

Context Scenarios

 TitleContext ScenarioOutcomes
1Single or multi-device user that does not sign into OneID
  1. Jacob has been using DisneyNOW for a few months now.
  2. He finds that there's an update to the app and he opens it.
  3. Jacob learns that he can now sign into a Disney Account to access his Profiles on other devices that are also signed in.
  4. Jacob thinks to himself that he only has a tablet that he uses DisneyNOW on so he doesn't choose to sign in. Also, he's tired after school and just wants to watch his favorite show right now.
  5. Maybe he'll sign in in the future when he has more devices.
User uses local profiles.
2Fresh install user (no local profiles) that signs into OneID with no server profiles
  1. Tiffany hears about DisneyNOW from her friends at school.
  2. Once school is out and she's home, she installs DNOW on her phone.
  3. After the splash screen loads, she learns that she can make Profiles on DisneyNOW and be able to create a Disney Account to save her info.
After sign-in, the Pick Your Disney Emoji screen displays and the user creates a profile
3Fresh install user (no local profiles) that signs into OneID with 1 or more server profiles
  1. Amanda has been using DisneyNOW for a few months now. Recently, she got a new phone and re-downloads DisneyNOW.
  2. She finds that DisneyNOW doesn't have her old profiles on it, but sees that she can sign back into her Disney Account to re-sync her Profiles.
  3. Amanda signs in and then chooses a Profile to use. She continues using DisneyNOW like she had before.
After sign-in, the server profiles download and the profile picker displays.
4Existing install user with 1 or more local profiles that signs into OneID with no server profiles
  1. Matt has been using DisneyNOW for a few months now. He recently updated to the latest version.
  2. He launches the app and earns some tokens like he's used to doing daily. This time, when he earns tokens he finds out he can save his Profiles to a Disney Account and also receive extra tokens for doing so.
  3. Excited, he signs up for a Disney Account and learns that he can now also sign into other devices to use the same Profiles.
  4. After signing up, Matt sees that his Profiles on his device are now linked to his Disney Account.
After sign-in, merge rules process the local and server profiles, server profiles are downloaded and a sign-in confirmation screen displays.
5Existing install user with 1 or more local profiles that signs into OneID with 1 or more server profiles
  1. Andy has a Disney Account which he recently linked to his mobile phone and so he has 2 profiles on it.
  2. Andy finds out he can also log into his Disney Account on his Roku.
  3. He launches DisneyNOW on Roku and signs into his Disney Account. His Roku already had three other Profiles on it.
  4. After signing in, Andy sees that some of his Profiles can be merged together since they have the same name.
  5. Andy chooses to merge the duplicates and is happy to find that the tokens he has earned on each Profile have combined.

6Existing install user that is signed into OneID who then signs out and then signs in again with their own OneID.
  1. Andy (from above) signs out of his Disney Account on his phone because his brother wants to sign into his Disney Account.
  2. Andy sees that he can remove all the Profiles linked to his Disney Account from his device or he can leave them on the device. He decides to remove the Profiles since he doesn't want his brother using them.

7Existing install user that is signed into OneID who then signs out and then signs in with another person's OneID. Users choose to remove their Profiles when they sign out.
  1. Andy (from #5 above) signs out of his Disney Account on his phone because his brother Tommy wants to sign into his Disney Account. Tommy's phone is out of power on their way home from a family trip, so he wants to use Andy's phone.
  2. Andy sees that he can remove all the Profiles linked to his Disney Account from his device or he can leave them on the device. He decides to remove the Profiles since he doesn't want his brother using them.
  3. Tommy then signs into his Disney Account and plays for awhile.
  4. Later in the day, Tommy has charged his phone again so he signs out of Andy's phone. He removes his Profiles.
  5. Andy then signs back into his Disney Account.

8

Existing install user that is signed into OneID who then signs out and then signs in with another person's OneID. Users choose to keep local Profiles when they sign out.

He decides to keep the Profiles on the device because he's not sure if his Profiles would remain with his Disney Account.
  3. Tommy then signs into his Disney Account. Upon signing in, he finds that Andy's profiles are linked to his account. Tommy figures he can delete the extra Profiles later. He continues playing on Andy's phone.
  4. Later in the day, Tommy has charged his phone again so he signs out of Andy's phone. He removes his Profiles.
  5. Andy then signs back into his Disney Account and finds that his Profiles have remained the same since Tommy hasn't used them.
Can a user choose not to merge local profiles when they sign into their One ID account? In that case if they say no to linking local Profiles, are those Profiles deleted?

Design Requirements

How might we:

  • Create new OneID as a fresh install user
  • Sign Into existing OneID with server profiles on a fresh install device
    • How might merging local and server profiles be communicated to the user?
  • Sign In or Create OneID from Settings
  • Sign Out from OneID through Settings
  • If a user isn't signed in for X amount of days, prompt them to save their progress.
  • Help the user understand that when they sign out of their OneID account, their Profiles (TBD - remain on the device or app reverts to default/guest state)
