GX Technology : Adding Email Addresses to the Spam Blacklist

GX Tools 4.7+

Overview

The Guest Experience department (GX for short) can request email addresses to be added to the black list for our ticket intake system.

The blacklist is capable of blocking specific email addresses and entire domains.

Adding Blacklist Entries

  1. Create the SQL script using the email addresses and your user ID (from support.users or support_centre.admin).
  2. Submit a ticket to TechOps via the TOCD project to have the script run against the ticket database on teamdbmaster.lv2.clubpenguin.com

SQL

 INSERT INTO blacklisted_emails(email_address, is_enabled, created, admin_id) VALUES (:address, 1, NOW(), :user_id);
ParameterDescription
:addressThe email address to blacklist. Use the format *@example.com to block an entire domain.
:user_idThe ID of the user whomever creates the entry. The ID is the primary key from the support.users (i.e. Jacquie's userid = 1444)

EXAMPLE

Block a Specific Email Address
INSERT INTO blacklisted_emails(email_address, is_enabled, created, admin_id) VALUES ('john.doe@example.com', 1, NOW(), 1444);
Block a Domain
INSERT INTO blacklisted_emails(email_address, is_enabled, created, admin_id) VALUES ('*@example.com', 1, NOW(), 1444);

GX Tools 4.6 and Earlier

Overview

The CSD can submit email addresses that are recognized as SPAM accounts and can request for these to be added to the mail-system blacklist.

The blacklist is currently stored in the mail.blacklist_email table on a mysql instance on the mail01.lv2.clubpenguin.com server.  The mail import parsing script reads in all rows of the table during execution and will discard any emails matching any row.

How to add email addresses:

1. Create the SQL: you will need the email addresses/domains and your support.user userid.

2. Submit a ticket to TechOps to have the scripts run: ensure you specific the mail.blacklist_email table - currently residing on mail01.lv2.clubpenguin.com.

SQL

 INSERT INTO blacklist_email(local, domain, enabled, created_date, created_user_id) VALUES(:local, :domain, 1, UNIX_TIMESTAMP(), :user_id);
ParameterDescription
:localThe portion of the email address before the @ symbol. Leaving this as the empty string will block the whole domain.
:domainThe portion of the email after the @ symbol.
:user_idThe ID of the user whomever creates the entry. The ID is the primary key from the support.users (i.e. Jacquie's userid = 1444)

EXAMPLE

Block a Specific Email Address
 INSERT INTO blacklist_email(local, domain, enabled, created_date, created_user_id) VALUES('john.doe', 'example.com', 1, UNIX_TIMESTAMP(), 1444);
Block a Domain
 INSERT INTO blacklist_email(local, domain, enabled, created_date, created_user_id) VALUES('', 'example.com', 1, UNIX_TIMESTAMP(), 1444);
