Account Registration Moderation Policy Overview

At The Walt Disney Company we strive to provide world class digital experiences that are innovative, fun, and interactive that allow users to express themselves and their creativity. We are dedicated to ensuring that each of our digital experiences provide a safe and positive environment for all of our guests.

 

The following policies focus on 4 key fields that allow users to enter information during account creation for TWDC digital experiences. These policies provide information and direction on how we moderate and each field for the specified age categories to ensure our guests are able to express themselves and their creativity while ensuring we are protecting their personal information for any public facing display names or usernames.

 

When moderating user registration fields we take into consideration the following questions:

Does this name/username/display name negatively affect the user?
Does this name/username/display name negatively impact the community?
Does this name/username/display name negatively impact The Walt Disney Company?  

 

*Note: The following policies have been drafted specifically for the OneID registration system

Any public facing field requires both black and white list moderation

Account Registration Policy for Under 13

Users under the age of 13 who register for our digital experiences fall under Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). This legislation restricts the types of information organizations are allowed to collect, store, and use for children under the age of 13.

 

Field Type: Non-Public Facing

Moderation Type: Automated using a blacklist filter

Policy: First names should be legitimate or common first names and not contain any inappropriate words or offensive language.

 

BRAND  – Brands are acceptable as long as they are a common name.

TITLES– Titles are not generally acceptable. The one exception is a suffix such as Junior/Senior as it may define the particular person if there are two family members with the same name.

Field Type: Not Applicable. We do not ask for the last name of user under the age of 13.

Policy: Usernames should allow personal expression yet not contain any personal identifiable information (PII) or offensive content. For children under the age of 13, usernames are emailed to the parent or guardian and should reflect Disney values.

Moderation: Automated using a blacklist filter


PII – Our number one priority is to protect our player’s identity. Usernames should be rejected if they give away enough information to identify someone’s real name, where they live, where they go to school or any of their contact information. We rely on the information provided to us through the registration and purchasing process to determine if name is using PII.

BELIEFS – Disney products are a religious and political neutral space. As usernames are not public facing, we will allow for more religious expression than with public facing display names.

RELATIONSHIPS – Disney Products do not serve as dating platforms. We do not allow names that suggest dating online, names that sexualize the player or the community, or names that suggest inappropriate relationships with others.

VIOLENCE – We do not allow names that show intent to hurt, damage or kill someone or something. We will deny names that could result in a player being negatively targeted while online (bullying).

We will allow fantasy/medieval weapon names (light sabers, swords). Popular video game/pop culture references are approved as long as they are not expressively violent or outside our target demographic.

 TRADEMARKS – We allow many opportunities for our players to express themselves through any Trademarked property, while minimizing the expression of advertising. We also do not allow brands or trademarks (including Disney property) if the name is spelled correctly.

Policy: Appropriate Names should allow personal expression while keeping the player safe and their identity private. They should contribute to a positive environment online without disrupting the community.

We moderate display names to ensure that names are appropriate for the age demographics that allow expressiveness and customization for the player.

Moderation: Combination of automated and manual moderation. Pre-moderated through both blacklist and whitelist systems. Anything that doesn't pass pre-moderation gets manually moderated.

We will deny all names regarding one particular political belief or candidate. We allow mythology and “god” names relating to non-religious references.
